Bill O'Reilly

I honestly had a field day on YouTube, looking at all the Bill O'Reilly video clips. I never watched his show before and from what I watched, I can tell that he is indeed a lunatic. I do not know where to begin, but this the first video I watched of this guy is what I would like to talk about. As seen in this clip, he will more then likely become belligerent as the discussion goes along with every guest. He attempts to start off strong with his ignorant personality, but at the mid point of the interview he begins to get loud and uncontrollable. It is either a win or lose situation from there. He knows he is such an asshole with his guests that he overpowers them unless their knowledge is consistent. A few of O'Reilly's guests like Phil Donahue will win the argument and make him look like a fool. I personally hate Bill O’Reilly after watching this and other videos of him. On the contrary, some viewers of this interview are saying that O’Reilly was the winner of this heated battle. I hate to be judgmental but those who think that obviously are stupid because he never proved Donahue wrong, the climax of his argument was “I'll bot you right off the set!” After the shouting ended, he more than likely got a cue from the people in his ear telling him that he lost the battle and to end it. Phil Donahue used his intelligence about how this war is unconstitutional which shut Bill right up. Another guest on Bill O’Reilly’s show that shuts him up and is a good watch is Stephen Colbert.

"Boomsday"

I just finished the book that i chose to read for the class entitled, "Boomsday". I stayed up all night reading it and finished it around 8am. I have mixed feelings on it, but I enjoyed the political satire and what the book was about. It was oddly enough about a blogger. Except Cassandra Devine's, the main character, blog became so popular that it caused a revolution against retirement centers/golf courses and the government. Her blog is called CASSANDRA, which stands for Concerned Americans for Social Security Amendment Now, Debt Reduction and Accountability. Her father is the main reason why she is blogging against his generation, the baby boomers. She wisely proclaims that since the baby boomers are getting old enough to retire, there is going to be an overwhelming amount of people getting Social Security. That would end up putting her and future generations in a great amount of debt with paying all these taxes for the retired “snobs”. There are so many characters and so much going on that it is hard to follow what is going on at some points. It would be to hard to sum in a couple sentences because of all the plots. Cass ends up having a little relationship with a Senator that is pursuing to become president. The idea of, “voluntary transitioning”, thought out by Cass, was the process of generations volunteering to kill themselves at age 75 which technically would end the Social Security problem. It gets its recognition from the election and overall it gets really intense. This book is a wild ride and it makes the government look like idiots which is good in my book.

Bush

I am going to be honest and start off by saying that since I was not really active in gaining knowledge about politics in the past election with Bush, I may not know how much of an idiot George W. Bush really is. However since I live in the United States, I do know for a fact the he is indeed a moron. I cannot begin to list the ridiculous actions he did or still does, like this interview. He fucked up big time, without a doubt, and I see this headline on my homepage, www.cnn.com, about how he is going to write a book about his regrets. The thought that came to my head immediately was how is this idiot going to write a book and actually get it published. Bush most certainly cannot write a book by himself. He is going to have writers left and right, if he actually pulls through and decides to write a book about him screwing up our country. He use to be intelligent and he must have been, I mean it is a possibilty he might have not been, but to actually go through everything in order to become the president, he must have been somewhat intellectual. That was the past, nowadays he is not capable to write a book and even let alone make any smart decisions. That is what he is supposed to write about, making dumb decisions. That headline I saw lead me to this video on his first interview since Obama won the election. First of all this interview does not even look real, it looks like they had a Bush fill in when the shots of the interviewer were shown, but the moral of this is, George Bush was a horrible president.

news news news

http://www.kitv.com/politics/17860890/detail.html?rss=hon&psp=news

So apparently Barrack Obama’s Hawaiian birth certificate has been proved to be legitimate. Apparently I am not good at following news either. I tried to find recent news about the controversy of his birth certificate when I found out about it in class the other day and I failed. Maybe it is because I have a short attention span and did not try hard enough. Whatever it is, I could not find anything while I talked to my friend about it and he found something first try. I was talking to him about the whole ordeal and he gets hostile and argumentative about politics and has to have the last word. I showed him this video and he showed me the link to completely shut down the conversation. Anyway, both of these forms of communication were released in October. The news article came out more recent then the video, which proves the video to be false, as far myself, an audience member knows. I never know where to stand on politics, because I would like to say that all the rumors and all the doubts on his birth certificate have been officially proved wrong, because I will never the real truth. The government who knows the real truth about the birth certificate can do whatever they please. But as far as I am concerned all the rumors are indeed false and this issue will not be brought up again. Obviously it must not be effective because voting starts in two days.

Christopher Buckley

http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2008-10-10/the-conservative-case-for-obama

The author of the book I chose, “Boomsday”, wrote this blog entry on who and why he is voting for this year’s presidency. Christopher Buckley is a well know author but also well known for being the son of William F. Buckley who past away this year. I came across this article because it was the second hit on Google under of course, Wikipedia, when I was looking up some background information on my author. It must be important commentary come up as the second hit for Google. Christopher followed his father’s footsteps not only by becoming a write but also his conservative outlook. In this article he explains how it is the first time he is voting democratically this year, which is going against their republican tradition. He talks about how he first favored John McCain and eventually on how his campaign fell to pieces, to cause him to vote for Barrack Obama. I agree with everything he said and we kind have the same view, except he knows a lot more then I do when it comes to backing up your points. Also reading some of the comments below the article, the negative ones, also take part on influencing my under knowledge of knowing about the candidates, but that is beside the point. Barrack over McCain any day. Now what I like even more then the article itself is how well it was written. It makes me excited to read and finish one of his most popular books.

Street Art

http://damncoolpics.blogspot.com/2007/04/robert-banksy-street-graffiti-artist.html

Photobucket

Street art is something that has always interested me. Now that I live in the city I am around it all the time and I love it. I think graffiti is form of communication in the means of getting your name or art out there, by putting it in different places where people start to notice your stuff. Hopefully the feedback will be positive from the audience viewing your art, where they will stop and stare and be like “Wow that is awesome, or that is talented” Advertising one’s art is also very important by putting it in places where many people see it is key. On a side of a building or anywhere that is daring catches the views attention. Now the street artist named, Banksy, is amazing. He is a graffiti artist born in Britain that does works of art based on topics such as politics, ethics, and for entertainment. When someone becomes famous graffiti artist they have to tightly their identity under closed doors. He does work all over in places like, New York City, London, Australia, and many other cities, simply getting his name and art out there in the world and running from a lot of police. Banksy makes stencils of anything as you can see in the photo blog and his website. Besides his art being amazing the places where he puts is art is amazing as well. I am mind boggled anytime I see street art where it is anywhere when I am like, how in the fuck did you get up there, let only paint that monstrously big image. It’s crazy.

The man

I actually was able to watch this second presidential debate between Obama and McCain this past week. I was not satisfied in terms of enjoying my time watching it or being able to decide who I liked. I am not a fan of either but I would support Obama over McCain any day. I feel like either of them would not be fit to be a president for four years or more. McCain’s health issues make him very likely to die very soon. If he won the election then the worst would happen if he were to die while he was in office. The vide president Sarah Palin would now become president. HA! That would be ridiculous, actually let me rephrase that statement and say John McCain is ridiculous. He was entertaining to watch him stumble around with no podium in front of him to lean of and also watching him trying to make funny jokes about Obama. I came across this video which I also thought was hilarious he just out of nowhere calls Obama, "that one" haha. However as much I would support Obama over McCain I feel like Obama is like a preacher. When he speaks about what he plans to do he is giving like a gospel speech on changing this and changing that. I seriously hope if he wins he can stick to his word, which I know both of these guys never do. Let alone accomplish these tasks and pick up the United States through these future hardships.

???

So the deadline to register to vote is coming up. Firstly I would like to say that I am not registered to vote for this year’s election or at least not yet. I am not too concerned because I do not really know anything about the election or the candidates. From what I know, I am not a fan of either of the parties. However I feel like this piece of media is speaking directly to people like me like the producers intended it to do. The video does seem to drag on for a lot longer then it should, cramming in all these celebrities to grab the viewers attention. I am not a fan of propaganda like this although I do have respect for the good job, idea, and quality of this video. This video probably inspired many people to vote. I do have to comment on if you get tired of this video and it loses the viewers attention after about a minute, it is basically telling you not to vote which I think is funny. I am a fan of Jonah Hill, the fat dude from Superbad; he is brilliant. If it was not for him I most likely would of shut this video off after a minute or so. This video also makes me think, “Are all these celebrities really going to vote?” I mean they are obviously getting paid to do this and say what they say so who knows. So much to think about with this election.

The truth

Is this for real? Now lets be serious with commercials likes these. First and foremost I thought commercials with cigarettes were illegal to advertise. Although of course the argument to that would be it is an anti cigarette smoking commercial instead a commercial that advertise the specific cigarette brand. But honestly it is still technically advertising the smoking of cigarettes whether it would subjectively or objectively. I do not smoke but either way the message of this specific commercial is just down right disturbing. This commercial is a little extreme when is comes to getting the message across. The truth did loosen up a little bit with their new commercials and their animations in them. I think that is a lamer way to show that smoking is bad for you but it is a different message for example like smoking while being pregnant, which was one of their newest animations. The older commercials like the cowboy who lost his voice box proves it is indeed possible for bad things to happen such as losing a lung or get your tongue snipped but honestly what are the odds. It takes so much for that to happen. That is just my opinion; I have not looked at statistics or anything like that. These commercials might be helpful to some but not to all like I think they are intending to. They either scare you like this commercial, or make you be like what was that, was that really a smoking commercial? Like their newer animated commercials. I for one think these commercials are unnecessary.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

I read this novel was one of my favorite books I read in my senior year of high school. Our class watched the movie also, which is a little different from the book because they are from different perspectives. The book's perspective is from one of the two major characters of the book, which is Chief Bromden; the movies perspective is from the other main character, McMurphy. Chief is a six foot something guy with an Indian ethnicity that plays deaf in dumb in the mental hospital, which is the main setting for the book, called The Ward. The first one of many twists in the book is when McMurphy is checked into the mental hospital, because he is not a mental handicapped person; he just pretended to be insane so he wouldn't go to jail from rape. That is when the fun starts for The Ward. His loud, rebelious personality brings a different wave of feeling to The Ward and the patients in there. All the patients are divided into acutes and chronics, depending on their mental state of mind. The third main character is Nurse Ratched. She controls the patients with her overruling authority. Her authority is what ends the book with the turning of McMurphy into a vegetable with electric shock. When McMurphy returns as a vegetable, Chief strangles and kills McMurphy to put him out of his misery so he would not conform to Nurse Ratched and The Ward. Overall the book is good read filled with fun filled mischief and many twists.

Cable?

I have finally come to realize that I actually miss cable. When there is nothing to do around my dorm like say on a rainy day, I always wish I had some cable to just chill out and watch as sad as that sounds. I never thought that I would ever say that I miss it when I decided not get cable the first day. My thoughts of getting cable were like, I barely ever watch television, I don't need it and so on. I'm sure my roommates were saying the same exact thing also. As I am writing this and thinking about what to write, I'm contradicting myself saying all of this. I'm contradicting myself because I know now of my roommates and I living statuses, that we couldn't really afford it. If I weren’t a communications major I would look at the television as a luxury item. However television is one of the major forms of communication. A lot of people look at cable television as their savior for many purposes. I mean cable does offer so many different things if you look at it. I think it also depends on a person’s lifestyle, to which they actually need cable television. For example, I am from the Jersey Shore and I would say my friends and I rarely watched the television. Yes we did hangout and watch some cable sometimes, but mainly when there was nothing else going on. I feel the same way with my current condition.

Wheres the beef?

As much as i dislike fast food this commercial is a classic television advertisement. A commercial with innocent elderly women and a hamburger really doesn't get better than that. I rarely go to fast food places but wendy's ads are never not good. I will give some props to the wendys business for making me hungry. My next wendy's hamburger, who knows when that will be, but it will be in honor of these sweet old ladies who can't see the beef.

Politics✌

Well... apparently I do not follow the politics or the election coming up so i figured from what I know, I would find a political cartoon that made some sense to me. This one obviously came out during the Olympics this summer. It's impact is just like any other politcal cartoon. With this one the artist bashes both of them by making fun of them for changing what they planned to do if they get elected. Their race for presidency is like a flip flop race in the Olympics. On their flip flops are some of the things they said and claimed they were going to do if they win the race. Things like tax cuts, immunity, among others. If I knew more about the election I could probably tell about what they claimed they were doing. Also if I knew more I could talk about what is going on and who that is in the background, however I can not haha. I am going guess and say that Barrack Obama is the favor right now because he is out in front of John McCain shown in this picture. This is my first time I can vote since I am now old enough and I would have to say I would support Obama for anti-war reasons. I assume that in elections to come when I get older I am going to follow politcs, but I certainly can not predict the future. Maybe in the future I can write a better blog entry on politics then this one ha.
